Yo-Yo crazy at cub scout camp

Last week at cub scout camp, I was assigned to the trading post where all the eager little boys would bring their money and trade it for however much sugar in various forms that they could afford. It was fun watching them make their choices and spend their money and walk away satisfied with their purchase. Very cute.

I also had some down time during each day while all the boys were busy with their various activities, so I packed my favorite tote bag full of fabric scraps, a spool of quilting thread, a package of sewing needles, my good scissors, my yo-yo makers in several sizes, and of course my reading glasses. By the end of the week, my scraps were turned into a pretty little pile of different size fabric yo-yos...

Fabric Yo-Yo making is fun! This was a great project to bring along on this adventure because I could put it down at any time without loosing my place or having to fuss with a lot of stuff.

Fabric Yo-Yo making is fun!I made lots of jumbo, extra large, large and flower shape yo-yos using up the last little bits of all these pretty fabrics I have used in recent projects.

Fabric Yo-Yo making is fun!The little flower yo-yos are so cute, I think I might look for the next larger size of the flower shape. I also would like to get the small round shape and the heart shape. Then I think my yo-yo maker collection would be pretty close to complete. It's a great way to use up scraps and have something pretty to embellish other projects.

How do you use up your scraps?

Happy Stitching!

  • I love to make yo yos also - I have never tried a yo yo maker. I am so old fashioned - I just cut various sized circles. One day I sat down and made cardboard circle patterns using an old compass to draw the circles - not very efficient! The flower yo yo is real tempting and I think it belongs on my JoAnns list - a good coupon purchase.

  • I love the cute little flowers that fill the center of the yoyos.
