Crocheted Hexagon Granny ~ Heating Up!

As I expected, this crocheted hexagon granny afghan is getting big enough to be uncomfortable sitting on my lap just when our New England summer weather is really heating up! It's so fun to join these lovely little hexies together that I just don't want to stop working on it! They come together so quickly and I get to change color with each one so that makes it fun. I really do love the join-as-you-go method, and now I won't be put off by a block design anymore. This will definitely be my joining method of choice from now on!

So take a look at my progress from a few days ago...

I will update again once I have a substantial amount more done, but you can see in this picture that the join is sturdy, not leaving any big holes or being too loosey goosey. I noticed that it is a lot more solid than I expected it to be, and I'm quite happy with it. I have always been one of those over zealous block joiners who stitches blocks together like a mad woman to make sure they will never ever come apart. Ever. So for me to be happy with these slip stitches holding the blocks together is really saying something!

I don't think I will get this afghan finished in time to mail it before the wedding date, but I know my niece will understand. I am not attending this wedding since it is half way across the country, so the bride will have a nice box of handmade love to look forward to receiving in the mail sometime after the weather cools down enough for me to be able to finish it!

So what fun projects are you working on this summer? I've seen lots of quilt swaps and quilt-alongs, and some beautiful crochet decorations and knit wraps out there lately, so I know lots of people are keeping their hands busy with lots of lovely and creative things. I hope you are too!

Happy Stitching!
