It is also known by a few other names as well, Moss stitch and Granite stitch being among them. Whatever you call it, it is easy and makes a great afghan, scarf, washcloth or anything other crocheted item! I hope you enjoy working with it.

MGM
Mary Grace McNamarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04994668228832105911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5451108506765377069.post-10573015420464079952017-07-19T16:29:17.682-04:002017-07-19T16:29:17.682-04:00What is this stitch called? If there is one extra chain hanging off after setting up the pattern, I just work it into the border or pick it out and secure the end. It's not that big of a deal, as it would be with a pattern that used a lot of stitches, like a zig zag pattern or something like that.

So you can just chain until you have the width you want, then turn and start setting up the pattern with the single crochet/chain combination. Just be sure to end on a single crochet before turning to continue the next row.

Hope this helps!

MGMMary Grace McNamarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04994668228832105911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5451108506765377069.post-42638081707120532302014-03-31T14:36:30.181-04:002014-03-31T14:36:30.181-04:00I'm eager to start this stitch for my husband&...I'm eager to start this stitch for my husband's blanket! What I do when purchasing yarn for a blanket where I don't have a pattern or any guidelines for the amount of yarn is purchase more than I think I will need, save the receipt and return what I don't use when the blanket is finished. It would be hard for me to give you a number of skeins to buy or ounces or yards of yarn. But what I can suggest to you is that you find the yarn you want to use, buy a skein and make a practice swatch about 12 inches by 12 inches. Tie a slip knot or mark the yarn in some way at the point where you stopped making the swatch and then rip out the whole thing and measure either by length or weight how much yarn you used for that size swatch. Using that information, you should be able to calculate approximately how much yarn you will need for the size blanket you want to make. I would add one or two more skeins to my purchase, like I said before, and return what is not used, or use it for another project.

Hope this helps!

MGMMary Grace McNamarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04994668228832105911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5451108506765377069.post-78582020339761885352014-03-11T12:23:53.438-04:002014-03-11T12:23:53.438-04:00How many skeins of what kind if yarn do you sugges...How many skeins of what kind if yarn do you suggest for a nice sized baby blanket with this stitch.thanks. I just finished a cowl from a purchased book that uses this stitch - the only thing the pattern did differently was one chain at the end of each row (instead of 2). It makes a lovely fabric :) Oombawka Designhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12805400056640824235noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5451108506765377069.post-2070722991844635732012-10-20T22:18:07.977-04:002012-10-20T22:18:07.977-04:00Hi Gail, thanks for writing. If it makes your piece too loose, use a smaller size hook. It all depends on the yarn and how tightly or loosely you crochet.

Hope this helps,
MGMMary Grace McNamarahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04994668228832105911noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5451108506765377069.post-85214995067548093262012-10-20T16:21:10.636-04:002012-10-20T16:21:10.636-04:00What size hook you suggest? What size hook you suggest?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00423623340532586986noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5451108506765377069.post-11127334664161865672011-02-26T16:29:01.825-05:002011-02-26T16:29:01.825-05:00Wow! The project you have on the side and work on without following a pattern, while doing another crochet project that needs a pattern. It's funny, but I usually do that.

Thank you for sharing this with me and I LOVE all of the blankets you've made with it, especially the colors.

Kind regards,

Crochet MomCrochet Momnoreply@blogger.com
