One more sneak peek at spring giveaway

We are still covered in snow here with a fresh many inches having fallen overnight. The sun is trying desperately to come out from behind those gray clouds, but there is a bit of spring time taking shape in my sewing room. Here's one more sneak peek at what I'm cooking up for a fun giveaway which will be announced very soon...

sneak peek pile of fabricDoesn't that pile of pretty fabric brighten your day? It's called Celebrate Spring by Sandy Gervais for Moda. It's been keeping me busy all week, and in a few days, you'll be able to see what it has become. Any guesses?

500th Post Giveaway!

This giveaway is now closed. Thanks to all who entered! Click HERE to see who the five lucky winners are.

I can't imagine how my 500th post could be coming up so quickly, but it's true! Number 500 will be sometime this week and I think that calls for just a little celebration.

I'd like to offer some items that I have made as small prizes to 5 people...

500th Post Giveaway prizesA few years ago I was given a whole boatload of discontinued upholstery fabric samples from a friend who worked at a local furniture store. With them I made pillows and tote bags of all sizes. This little one on the right side of the picture was made with one of those long skinny samples, a few grommets and some pretty braided cord. Included with that will be one of my crocheted floor duster covers.

The next prize will be the little pink and green friendship bag that I did not give away in the friendship bag swap, along with the pink and white crocheted floor duster cover.

The other three prizes will be a crocheted floor duster cover.

I may throw in some other little goodies in each package as well.

So what do you have to do to be in the running for one of these prizes? Nothing too hard, I promise! Just leave a comment here on this post with some feedback, advice, idea or constructive criticism about my website. Be open and honest - I can take it! I will draw 5 winners and announce them on my 500th published post, whenever that happens to be.

Please make sure you include an email address in your comment if you choose to comment anonymously. If I can't contact you with an email address, your entry will not be in the drawing.

Thanks to all my regular readers and all those who comment on a regular basis. I appreciate so much that you take the time to leave a few kind words or ask a question or share a thought, and I am so grateful for all the friends I have made through this creative outlet I call Hooked On Needles.

Now to get busy thinking up ideas for the next 500 posts!

Happy Stitching!

Charity Quilt Fabric from Blue Meadow Designs

Cori and Myra of Blue Meadow Designs are very talented quilt and fabric designers from Canada who are also very generous with their talents and materials. About 6 weeks ago, they had a giveaway for some of their own fabric to be used to make a quilt for a charity of the winner's choice. So I entered the giveaway, offering the Montachusett Interfaith Hospitality Network as my charity.

I bet you can guess what happened next...I was one of two people chosen to receive fabric from Cori and Myra! On the same day that George the mailman delivered my Sunflower Quilt win and my Hawthorne Threads win, he also delivered this wonderful collection of RJR fabrics from Blue Meadow Designs...

Charity Quilt Fabric from Blue Meadow DesignsThese gorgeous fabrics are all from Blue Meadow Designs Completely Kids fabric line.

Charity Quilt Fabric from Blue Meadow DesignsThere are several yards each of most of the designs...

Charity Quilt Fabric from Blue Meadow Designs...and a few smaller cuts of some.

This is enough fabric to make a generously sized quilt, plus a few pillowcases to go along with it. The staff and residents at this wonderful local shelter will be so excited to receive this very generous gift from two very generous ladies north of the border. Thanks so much, Cori and Myra, for sharing your fabrics!

Now I just need to decide on a design for this quilt. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! What would you do with this much beautiful fabric, given to you freely with the understanding that you would use it to help others? I'd love to know!

Christmas Fabrics from Hawthorne Threads

The other day I mentioned that George the mailman had been very good to me, and yesterday I showed the contents of one of the packages I received which was from Sunflower Quilts. Today I thought I'd show you what was in another package I received the same day. This one was from Hawthorne Threads whose button you may have seen on my sidebar lately. It was a very timely giveaway win...

Christmas Fabric from Hawthorne Threads...six half yard cuts of Holiday Magic by Studio E!

Terri over at Sew-Fantastic hosted this giveaway and said she had over 800 entries. Can you believe the lucky winner was little old me? Thanks again Terri!

Lovely Gifts from Sunflower Quilts

I love getting mail, especially when I find such wonderful things as this inside the box...

Lovely Gifts from Sunflower QuiltsThis is the darling thread catcher that Jennie over at Sunflower Quilts made for her giveaway celebrating the first anniversary of her website.

Lovely Gifts from Sunflower QuiltsAnd check out those charm packs...all from Moda and each fabric just as cute as can be. The little box is full of 11 inch fabric squares called Taddles.

I follow a lot of sites because there are so many interesting and inspiring people out there doing such fun and creative things. I love to see what other people are working on and get ideas for fun little projects and gifts. Along the way, I sign up for giveaways here and there, never thinking I'll actually win. But when I signed up for this one, I hoped against hope that my name would be the lucky winner out of the almost 200 comments. Was I ever thrilled when Jennie sent me an email giving me the good news that I had indeed won her very generous giveaway!

Now I just need to come up with some clever ways to use these great prizes. You can be sure I'll share them with you whenever that happens! Thanks again, Jennie!

Hazel Hipster Pattern winner announced...

If you signed up for my bag pattern giveaway during the past week, your odds of winning were pretty good! They became even better when designer Trish Preston emailed me a few days ago and said she was going to send me two patterns to give away instead of just one! Yippee! I love having giveaways!

So would you like to know who the lucky winners of this cool bag pattern are? Keep reading...

Grace was my little helper today and she chose her favorite red Jello bucket to hold all the entries. I wrote down each entry on the back of my favorite little Snoopy daily calendar pages that I save for scrap paper, then I folded them up and tossed them all into the Jello bucket.

Grace reached in and stirred them all around a few times and then pulled out....

...Trisha's entry! Trisha is a new blogger from Texas who has quite a few things in common with me. She's been married 27 years and loves to knit, crochet and quilt, all of which make us practically twins! Pop over to her blog and say hi.

Then Grace reached in one more time, and came up with...

Terri's entry from Purple and Paisley! Terri has been blogging for a while now and does a little bit of everything. She also happens to have the most colorful blog header in the universe...all things she has made herself. I love looking at it!

So congratulations to Trisha and Terri! This Friday the 13th is a lucky day for you two! I will send out your Hazel Hipster bag patterns just as soon as I get your addresses.

And speaking of winning giveaways, I won Jennie's first anniversary giveaway from Sunflower Quilts, and it's a fabulous prize too! Click HERE to see the wonderful things coming my way, and say hi to Jennie while you're there.

Coming up here at Hooked On Needles, I'll be showing you some sewing I've done lately and the cutest little thing that arrived from Australia the other day. See you soon!

The Hazel Hipster - pattern giveaway!

This giveaway is now closed. Thank you to all who entered! To see who the winners are, click HERE.

Who doesn't love bags? Anyone who knows me knows I love bags of all kinds. Just yesterday I showed you the wonderful bag Marit made for me in the Stitcher's Angel Swap. I've shown many other bags that I've made along with tutorials on how to make them here at Hooked On Needles.

Recently I had the opportunity to test a pattern for a new bag designed by Trish Preston over at Two Peas in a Pod. The bag is called The Hazel Hipster and the pattern is ready for purchase, but Trish is sending me one that you could win for yourself in my giveaway so keep reading!

Take a look at my test bag and see what you have to do to win a free pattern so you can make your own...

The Hazel HipsterThis bag was quick to make and used basic sewing skills. I had two half-yard pieces of fabric and some fusible fleece on hand which is what I used. I did have to go hunting for a magnetic snap, and was surprised to find it right at my local Michael's store.

The strap on this bag is quite long so that you can wear it over your shoulder and across to the opposite hip.

The Hazel HipsterThere is a divided pocket on the outside of the bag...

The Hazel Hipster...and a divided pocket on the inside of the bag. The pattern that you could win in this giveaway has ideas for many different ways to make this fun bag. Here's what you have to do for a chance to win your own pattern...

Leave a comment here on this website post (if you are reading this in an email, please click through to the website post to comment) describing the ideal bag for you. Do you like a plain and simple bag with one big pouch and two handles? Do you prefer a fussy bag with lots of pockets and trim and zippers and tabs and snaps? Do you enjoy having a bag for every season, project, event, outing and purpose? What is a bag to you...a necessity, a luxury, a functional item? Tell me how you really feel about bags.

Entries that I cannot reply to will be discarded. Feel free to share this giveaway with your friends. I will choose a winner by random draw with the help of one of my favorite winner-drawers (my children!) on Friday, November 13 and the winner will be announced that day.

Perhaps Friday the 13th will be your lucky day!

Happy Stitching!

400th Post Summer Giveaway

This giveaway is now closed. Thanks to all who entered. Click HERE to see who the lucky winner is!

In a little more than a week's time, the 400th post here at Hooked On Needles will be published. I never would have thought, just about a year and 2 months ago, that I'd hit that mark so soon. Yet here we are, and I think we should celebrate!

According to the calendar, we are in the middle of summer here. But according to the weather, once again we are back to the cool rainy climate we in New England associate with early spring or fall. Don't get me wrong though! I'll take this weather over the hot and humid stuff any day of the week! I'm much more productive when it's cooler.

But I digress. I'm having a 400th Post Summer Giveaway starting right now. The winner will be announced in my 400th post which should be in a little more than a week, so you have time to share this with your friends too!

Would you like to see what your prize will be?

400th post summer giveawayWhen you've decided that the day is much too nice to spend indoors, just grab your Crocheted Mini-Duffel, toss in your sunscreen, chap stick, Crystal Light packets, your summer journal and notecards. Add a bottle of water and your sunglasses, then leave a little sticky note saying you're at the beach, and off you go! If you take a few pictures while you are there, you can put them in your little photo album later to share with everyone who was too busy to enjoy the day with you!

Crocheted Mini-duffel giveaway prizeIn case you haven't guessed, this Crocheted Mini Duffel is what I was making recently when I offered the video tutorials on how to work the Forked Cluster Stitch and how to incorporate colorful bits of yarn into your work. It's a generous size for holding a towel, book, sunglasses, and bottle of water, plus car keys and cell phone for when you just want to go sit at the beach and relax for the afternoon. It would also be great for toting your current project with you to the doctor's office or any of those other places you find yourself waiting, and waiting, and waiting, and waiting!

The mini duffel has a crocheted draw string (video tutorial coming soon!) which is held closed by the hand painted wooden bead that I purchased on vacation at Bella Beads in New Hampshire. In fact, finishing this bag was my vacation handwork project that I brought along in case we had a day or two of rain or cold. Good thing I did bring something along too since most of the week was quite a bit chillier than usual for this time of year and I only went in the lake two times all week! Brrrrrr, it was refreshing!

fabric lining of crocheted mini duffelThe bag is lined with one of the fabrics I purchased at Keepsake Quilting during that same shopping trip.

So if you would like a chance to win the Crocheted Mini Duffel and other assorted goodies shown in the picture above, just leave a comment on this post telling me which of the links at the top of my sidebar you like the most or have found the most helpful. You can also suggest any other links that might be appropriate there as well.

Feel free to share this giveaway with your own readers and friends, on your website, facebook page or twitter. International entries are welcome. Please make sure I can reply to your comment or include your email in your comment so I can contact you if you are the lucky winner.

Good luck to each of you!
