Pineapple Doily crocheted by Mom
On this Mother's Day, I'd like to wish all my readers who are mothers the happiest of days. I'd also like to share with you a crochet project that has been on my own mother's hook lately and is just freshly finished. It's a beauty!
Isn't this just a gorgeous piece of handwork? My mother made this for a wedding gift, and what a special gift it will be. I think all new brides should begin their married life with pretty things for their new home.
After she finished with the crocheting, Mom pinned it to this bulletin board to block it. It measures about 28 inches across, so a large board like this is just the thing for blocking such a big piece.
After it was dry, she unpinned it and will mount it on this foam board before she wraps it in paper to match the bridesmaids dresses. What a lovely gift!
I have always loved pineapple doilies, and I've made quite a few myself, but I get a thrill seeing doilies crocheted by someone else. I especially love new doilies that are fresh and clean and not yet used. Antiques are nice, but there's just something about a new cotton doily that makes me happy.

Isn't this center pretty?

The edging on this one is beautiful too, probably because it is so simple.
I love the little arches going around and around. Or maybe they look like 'w' or candelabras or little trees. Hmmm, now I'm not sure. But the effect sure is nice.
The pineapples radiating out from the center...very nice! Did you know the pineapple is a symbol for hospitality?
Perfect stitching!
And such a pretty edge with those double clusters and little arches.
Just beautiful!
This doily was made with size 10 crochet cotton, but if a smaller size cotton were used, it would look even more delicate and fine.
This is the book where my mother found the pattern for this lovely doily. You can click through to Amazon using the link below and view the inside pages of this book. There are 40 different patterns in it and they are all just as nice as this one.
Thanks, Mom, for letting me show off your beautiful work. I hope the new bride appreciates it as much as I do!
Happy Stitching!

Hi Mary Grace,
Your mom is certainly talented! My mom used to crochet doilies, I'll have to dig them out now.
