Donated Fabric - Time to Sew Sew Sew!

Today I picked up a boatload of beautiful upholstery fabric from a parent at my son's school. When I volunteered for this little project, I was told that this Mom used to do some sewing and has recently had surgery on her hand so she had some fabric she wanted to donate so that we could make tote bags or what have you. What a surprise when I drove away with so much wonderful fabric! The back of my minivan was overflowing! Take a look at the pile once I got it into the house...

Donated FabricI'll show it to you from all directions so you can truly appreciate it!

Donated FabricAnd one more...

Donated FabricJust getting it from her house to mine was a major expedition! My two little helpers made the job easier, not to mention so much more fun!

While my big kindergarten boy was in school for the afternoon and my little shadow girl was napping, I spent quite some time organizing the fabric, pairing up pieces that could be used together and sorting out pieces that I thought I would not be able to use.

Donated Fabric SortedThis is what I ended up with...two long rows of paired up fabrics overlapping each other on a regulation size pool table. That gives you an idea of how much fabric is here! What you don't see is the other pile of fabrics that I weeded out, which will be given back to the school to be used for art projects, costumes, bulletin board backgrounds, etc.

Now the fun can begin. I got out my favorite tote bag pattern book just to get a rough idea of measurements and then jotted down some notes of my ideas for things to make with all this great fabric.

Keep in mind that the Holiday Fair is coming up fast...November 22nd to be precise, so time is not my friend on this project. I need to start sewing and not stop until the doors open next Saturday morning.

So for the next week, you can expect perhaps some quick peeks at what I've made with all this fabric, but not too much else! Wish me luck, and a healthy sewing machine!

Speaking of wishing luck, check out the new button on my sidebar for the Old Red Barn Company quilt giveaway. If you have good luck, you could be one of three winners!

Good luck to us all and Happy Stitching!

  • Fabulous score - I've received upholstery fabrics of different kinds from freecycle - they're great to sew with. I throw everything into the washer and dryer and if they come out unscathed - they're gonna get used! I can't wait to see what you come up with - but only quick peeks because you'll have your nose to the grindstone, lol!! Now ... SHOO!! To your machine, Cinderella!! ;)
