Gracie's Cinch Sack
My name is Mary Grace, and I'm a bagaholic! There, I said it! I feel better now, but I don't think I'm ready to work towards overcoming my addiction. We'll save that for another decade, or century. I think it's genetic or contagious or something like that too, because my little 5 year old Gracie also seems to have this overwhelming urge to possess bags, boxes, containers, anything that can hold stuff. Ever since I made my Summer Solstice cinch sack, which I have used constantly and totally love, Grace has been asking me to make her a bag too. I put her off for a little while by telling her that she needed to design it herself, just like I designed my own bag. She took that to heart and set about drawing the cutest little dog you ever saw in true 5 year old artistic fashion! It's a real hoot, and truly a piece of artwork to be preserved for the ages! I'll show it to you later. I wasn't sure what that had to do with her bag though.
Yesterday I finally was able to clean up my sewing room from previous projects and concentrate on Gracie's bag. She knew exactly what she wanted - a cinch sack just like mine with her dog on the front of it. Okie dokie! We went through my fabric stash and I let her pick out whatever she wanted. Are you ready to see what she picked? Keep in mind...she's only 5!
Ok, so the Paddington Bear fabric will be the bag itself. Perfect background for a fabric dog, don't you think? Uh huh. Me too. And all the other fabrics piled on top are for the different pieces and parts of the dog. Oh my!
Maybe an overhead view will make them all look like they go together a little better. Well, maybe not! But keep in mind, she's only 5. And she has a vision of the perfect bag. I just hope my handiwork can live up to her vision. We'll see. Wish me luck!

have fun making her bag! I am sure that she will treasure it!! It is great to see how little ones visualize things and I love the fact that you let her pick out her own fabric to use :)
Looking forward to seeing the finished bag!!

Um, my name is Lynn and I'm a bagaholic, too. I can't stop. I love them. And I'm not willing to stop, either! My husband asks if I really NEED all these bags. I'm not sure what the right answer to that is.
Though when I mentioned to a girlfriend how much I love shawls and how my hubby doesn't understand why I want more than one or two, she suggested I tell him I was collecting them. There! He can identify with that! So I collect bags and shawls. And yarn. And fabric....

Your post makes me smile - I can just picture Gracie picking out these fabrics. What fun and what memories your two are creating. She will be so proud of her new bag.
