Nancy's Cinch Sack

It is now safe to show off Nancy's Cinch Sack! She came by yesterday afternoon and picked it up. I think it would not be an overstatement to say that she loved it! And really, what's not to love about a cool bag made with fabric you get to choose yourself?

Here it is hanging open so you can see all that colorful swirly fabric and the soft brown cotton tape used for the drawstrings.

On the inside, you can see the three pockets on the lower side with the orange ribbon hanging into one of them. At the end of the ribbon is a swivel hook for keys or whatever Nancy might want to clip onto it. Notice the little green ribbon at the top of the other inside panel?

That's attached to the zipper pull of the hidden zipper pocket!

As I constructed the zipper pocket for this project, I took boatloads of pictures and wrote pages of notes so that I can put together a picture tutorial on how to make a hidden zipper pocket for this or any other project. When I finished and looked over the pictures and notes, I had this awful sinking feeling that the pictures won't be good enough and the words won't explain clearly the process of making this type of pocket. But it could be that I was just too close to the project at the moment. I'll have to type up the instructions and download the pictures and see if my initial impression of this tutorial is correct. If so, I'll have to work up a sample project and try again.

I thought this was a cool picture, so I kept it!

Here you can see the closed bag at the top and the boxed corner at the bottom.

And here it is again, hanging on my dining room chair by one strap. I just love how it turned out!

If you want to make your own version of this cinch sack, the pattern is available as a PDF file over at my Etsy shop for practically nothing. It only requires 4 fat quarters, a half yard of fusible fleece and 5 yards of drawstring cord or ribbon or tape or whatever you want to use, and thread of course! Oh yes, and one of those cool little swivel hooks for your keys if you want to add that little feature.

I'm hoping to find time to work on that zipper pocket tutorial soon, so you can add one to your own cinch sack or any other bag pattern you might want to make.

Happy Stitching!
