Tranquility Quilt ~ Finished!
Recently I had the opportunity to use a long arm quilting machine once a week for three weeks in a row, and I enjoyed every minute of it! Below is one of the quilts I was working on which you have seen HERE and HERE, my Tranquility Quilt. It is now finished and ready to wrap up and mail away. But I'll wait just a little longer before I send it off...I'm kind of attached to it!
These colors, so typical of Sandy Gervais and seen in most of her fabric lines, are just perfect for this time of year.
It looks pretty cozy hanging out on the front porch on a cool sunny fall day.
I stitched the binding on by machine, using the feather stitch and making the stitching part of the design rather than trying to hide it in the ditch, much like I did the metallic gold stitching around the edge of my Advent Calendar Christmas Tree wall hanging and the Christmas Candle Mat. This made for a much nicer back side of the binding as well with no flap of extra binding on the back of the quilt. I think I have gained enough confidence in stitching binding that I should start cutting mine at 2 1/4 inches instead of 2 1/2. Maybe on my next quilt I'll see how that works out.
The quilting design I used for this quilt is a fun and sort of whimsical design that reminded me a little of a caterpillar with the three big loops and the scallops over them. It was a design that appears to be stitched on the diagonal, but it is really stitched from side to side. Very fun to do too, and pretty fast. The backing of this quilt is double wide, double napped flannel from Fabric.com so there are no seams and it is ever so cozy!
Just hanging on the back porch...
...waiting to be needed...
...so cheerful, warm and inviting!
Happy Stitching!

Lovely quilt! One of the ladies at work is taking a class in long arm quilting to do the same thing you did, renting a machine to do her own quilting. I'm not that brave!
